Does any Czech wishlist service do Secret Santa?

Czech families usually handle it with a separate single-purpose app or slips of paper in a mug. Wishfox has it built into the wishlists. Do people need to register to buy me something?

A wishlist is worthless if your grandmother won't use it. With several of the services here, that's exactly where it stalls. A guest opens the link, tries to claim a gift, hits a sign-up form, and goes back to the family group chat instead. And two copies of the same book end up under the tree.

We went through six Czech services we could find and check. We ranked them first on how easily a guest can claim a gift. Then on shop offers among the wishes, hidden reservations, and adding a product from any online store. Last, on the features Czech services mostly don't list at all, Secret Santa and price tracking. Here's how they stack up.

Closest to Wishfox
The Czech edition of Slovak zoznamdarcekov.sk. Of the services here, it comes closest to what we care about in a wishlist. It lists reserving without signing up, reservations hidden from the owner, and no ads. You add wishes by pasting a link from any online store, and several people can chip in on a pricier gift through a group collection. There is no browser extension, just a bookmarklet, and it doesn't list Secret Santa or price tracking.

VOLO
The only one with an Android app
Formerly Tomikup. It has a browser button for adding items from any shop, an Android app, and birthday reminders. On reservations, though, their site disagrees with itself. The homepage says you can claim without an account. A separate reservations page says registration is required and describes an arrangement in which one designated person reserves for everyone. Partner-shop gift tips also appear alongside the wishes.

Dej mi dárek
Best for inspiration
Dej mi dárek has been running since 2013 and sticks to what it does well. Lists open without signing in, the site says gifts can be claimed secretly, and you get a nudge fourteen days before a friend's birthday. You can sign up only by email or through Facebook. We found no link to a mobile app on the site. Its content also carries gift tips linking out to shops. We couldn't verify claiming without an account. The button appears for guests, but we weren't going to complete a reservation on somebody else's site.

Wishlisty.cz
More of a gift finder
Nicely made, but built on a partner-shop catalog, and they earn a commission on purchases through partner links. You can sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft. Their own pages contradict each other. The homepage promises that family members will see "what's free and what someone already bought", and that the service tracks prices. The FAQ, though, never mentions reservations and says prices may change without notice. That's why their column has four dashes.

A simple list for friends
A wishlist you share with friends who claim items anonymously. Only a signed-in friend can reserve. When we checked, one of its main pages returned an error and the site asked us to disable ad blocking. Facebook login wasn't working either, which the site says itself.

Wishfox is our own app and the ranking reflects our criteria. For the other services we go by what they state on their own sites. So "yes" and "no" mean they do or don't list that feature, not that we tested it end to end. A dash (—) means their own pages are ambiguous on that point. Features also change. Service names belong to their operators and Wishfox isn't affiliated with any of them. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we'll fix it.

While gathering this, seven Czech wishlist domains didn't serve us a usable page. They still turn up in search.

That's one check on one day, not a verdict on those projects. But it says something about the category. You set a wishlist up once and don't open it again for a year. If the service shuts down in the meantime, everything you added goes with it. So it's worth looking at whether a project is still being worked on, not just at its feature list. Wishfox has a public changelog, and you can export your items to CSV whenever you want to leave.

Where the others are better

VOLO has a native Android app. Wishfox runs in the browser and you can add it to your home screen like an app, but you won't find it in an app store yet. If you want an app from Google Play, VOLO has one.

Dej mi dárek has spent years developing a gift-tips magazine with wishlists from well-known Czech figures. Wishlisty.cz has a catalog you just click through instead of hunting for links. If you don't know what to buy and don't really need a wishlist, both will suit you better than Wishfox. And Dárkový seznam can run a money collection with a target amount. In Wishfox several people can chip in on one gift only through item quantity, not a money total.
