About Wishfox

Buying the right gift isn't always easy, especially when you don't know what the other person wants. Or two people buy the same gift and someone ends up with duplicates. Imagine how much easier it would be if everyone had a wishlist. That's exactly what Wishfox is for.

Create your wishlist, add a few items and share it with family and friends. With one click they can reserve any gift you've added. You won't see which ones, because it should still be a surprise. And no one ends up buying the same gift twice.

How it started

For years my wishlist was an HTML page I wrote myself. Every December I re-uploaded it and emailed the link around. It worked, but only for me, because I write code for a living. I tried the wishlist sites that existed back then and always went back to my own page.

So in July 2020 I started building a proper one. Nothing serious, just a fun project for my family. Christmas was coming and nobody knew what to buy for anyone. By October it was online, and people outside my family were using it too.

That was 2020. Wishfox has been an evening and weekend project ever since. No corporation behind it, no investors, no ads, and none of that has changed. Hosting, the domain and the tools cost me about €20 a month. Please consider a small donation to help with the costs. Thank you!

Translations

Wishfox is currently available in English, Czech (my native language), Ukrainian, Spanish and German. Do you want to use Wishfox in your language? Want to help? Contact me! I'm looking for French, Italian and Polish translators.

Author

Hi! I'm Ondra, an iOS and full-stack developer from Ostrava, Czech Republic. I started making websites around 2004, then moved to iOS development. In 2020, stuck at home like everyone else, I picked up Node and Vue. Wishfox is what came out of it.

I keep building it because I use it myself, every birthday and every Christmas. Almost every feature here started as something my family or I needed. Found a bug, or missing something? Write to me, I read everything. There is more of my work on my website.
